The suns out, the site's busy and finally the season is underway :-)

The bulk of the of the main work for this season is now finished, the shower block has gone down a storm, the new site for the reception and bar is looking really nice, with lots of new plants to pretty the place up with lovely splashes of colour.

We're seeing. a lot more of these car tents this year which are really great, We like seeing new ideas on the site. keep checking out the blog every month to see what's going on at Prattshayes Campsite.

Finally the sun has shone on us!

Well it's been a long time coming but we've got the sun, and it's brought out the campers in their droves, I'm happy to say! The feedback from the new shower block has been really positive after a few initial glitches, as with all new things! The new positioning of the bar/shop/reception has made a lovely garden for our guests to enjoy an afternoon beverage in the sunshine. Look forward to seeing you in the garden for a cold one when you can make it. ;-)

What a start to the year!

It's been a challenge doing the blog at Prattshayes Campsite during these difficult times, but we finally think we've turned the corner with a number of sunny days on the trot and no rain! The rain has been unbelievable and has caused unprecedented problems for us, with us having to close all our grass pitches and only able to operate with ten hardstanding pitches since the start of the season. The new shower block which we are so excited about, also suffered hold ups due to the ground being too wet to move it into place for weeks, however, I'm so happy to report that it's in situ, plumbed in, electric working and just the last snagging jobs to complete and we'll be able to open them, can't tell you how happy we all are at that prospect.

The changes to the site are exciting for us but there's still a lot of landscaping etc to do before it looks at it's best, but we're working hard to make it as good as we can. Look forward to seeing you all and hearing your views.

The new season approaches!

Well the season preparations are well under way now!

There have been some major works going on at Prattshayes Campsite this winter! The new shower block is now in situ and the plumbing and decking are getting underway, so all should be ready for our full opening, which is hopefully coming soon. The weather has been very unkind to us so far this year, which has hindered work that we would hope to have completed by now, but we are all beavering away to get back. on track.

The Cabin has been moved to its new position and there's lots of landscaping and baskets to get done, so work is really going apace now1

We look forward to seeing all our returning guests and lots of new ones this season, so do come along when we're open and see all the changes.

We're delighted to announce the plans for our new shower block at Prattshayes.

We are very excited to introduce the plans for our new shower facilities, due to be in place for next season. Our original shower block, in the old barns, has done a great job for us for many years but it's time to upgrade to more and better facilities, for our returning customers and for all our new visitors we've yet to welcome.

A busy winter ahead getting all the work done in time for 2024.

September has proved to be a really sunny, busy time, encouraging people to book late and enjoy the last of the years warm weather.

Another season nearly over, but remember we are open all through the winter now as well, utilising our ten hardstanding pitches through the wetter, cooler months.

Not something you see everyday on Prattshayes!

The joy of working on a campsite :-)

Not everyday you see a cat being walked on a lead at Prattshayes, and then add to that our guinea fowl discovering it going on and I just had to get a picture! Good job the cat was on the lead because I think he would have pounced and all hell would have been let loose! The guineas are very territorial and wouldn't put up with any nonsense.

So, we are well into our busy holiday period and thankfully the weather is picking up and the campsite is nice and busy. Tents seem to be getting bigger and bigger as do the motor homes! Our pitches are generous and sometimes it's a tight fit but we haven't had to turn anyone away, I'm happy to say!

We also have some great news for our campers, we are awaiting delivery of our brand new, purpose built shower/toilet facility that will be in situ in time for our 2024 season. I'll post some photos once it's here but I can tell you it's fabulous, with all individual toilets, showers and sinks in separate sealed cubicles, a couple of family size cubicles and a universal access room. Bring on 2024!

Our gorgeous wildlife around the site.

We are really blessed to live and work in Devon, such a great part of the UK. On Prattshayes Campsite we have a great number of birds and wildlife around the place and we love watching their antics. We have a resident seagull, Steven, and as much as seagulls can be a real nuisance around areas with food about, he has the intelligence to have made us his home and spends his time scavenging for anything he can get his beak on! Campers be aware! Don't leave food lying around your pitch area or Steven will make a meal of it. We also have five resident guinea fowl, raised by our warden and his wonderful wife, the birds spend their days wandering around the site or charging about depending on their frame of mind. They are adorable to watch and although wild, they seem to have adapted pretty well to being here. We don't like to see them chased or harassed, we like you just to enjoy watching their antics and listening to them chat to one another. They are very close as a group and never like to be too far apart. There are also many small birds who nest in our fabulous hedges and are fed by the same wonderful woman who looks after the guinea fowl. We hope you really love the site when you visit us, and enjoy all the wonderful wild life.

Old style camping, we love it!

So, summer has come early and we are absolutely delighted! The site is looking amazing and our campers are loving it! All our flowers, baskets and hedges are green, luscious and colourful The beers cold, the ice creams are keeping everyone cool and we are excited to have a great season here at Prattshayes Campsite. We love it here <3

The wonderful colours of nature

We've been challenged this year with the weather but it finally feels like spring is doing its best to cheer us up. The campsite beech hedges are looking fabulous, the troughs and tubs are a wonderful splash of colour and the campsite is ready for our campers to enjoy themselves. The bunting is up for the coronation, let's hope its a nice day for it! Keep your eye out for the sunshine and come and have a drink with us at the outdoor bar, everyone is welcome.

Well spring may be on the way but the rain has been relentless!

Prattshayes Campsite is well underway with preparations for the new season of 2023. Although the rain has been pretty relentless at times, at least it's really helped all the grass seed to flourish. to replace what was lost in the hot, dry summer of 2022. The flower troughs are being planted, so by the time the season is underway they'll be blooming marvellously!

Prattshayes has also welcomed some new guinea fowl to the site, five of these delightful birds are making their home with us, which is a wonderful addition to the campsite.

The bar is being restocked ready for you thirsty campers, the shop will be ready with essentials in case you forget something and we have chocks and electric hook ups for rental if you should require them.

We are really looking forward to welcome back old friends and to make new ones for the years ahead. Come and see us soon!

Flowers in February 2023

It is so good to see the arrival of the Spring flowers. We have had a busy winter and looking forward to welcoming our spring visitors.

It is going to be another great year and don't forget our watersports adventures as the weather warms up. Phil is planting lavender around the entrances and we atre hoping to plant alot in the second camping field. 1000 trees are arriving, we lost a few of our young trees to the drought last year and we have cunning plans to keep them safe during this years drought!!

Hardstanding pitches for the winter

The new drainage is working well.

We are delighted to say that the new draiunage has worked very well and stopped the flooding, well, so far! The hard pitches are proving great for our winter visitos and we are really pleased to be able to offer a haven gfor our winter adventurers and folks visiting family for Christmas.

Tis the season to replant and give our pitches some gardening love.

We are working on the campsite to get the pitches ready for 2023. The hardstanding pitches are open all year and quite busy. They are available for those visiting family and needing to stay over. The grass pitches atee being resseded and fed readu for 2023 and are closed for the winter. The hedges have all been trimmed and new plants are growing in our green house ready for planting between the pitches. Qyuite a few of our beech trees did not make it through the hot summer and need replacing, Of course you never know which trees are dead until the bark starts to come away so we are hoping that a few more will be fine. Lots to do around the campsite, it is great being outdoors.

Autumn is upon us at Prattshayes campsite and green grass has returned last!

Well, September has brought enough rain to turn our desert into a green and pleasant land again. Although its grey skies, the trees and plants are loving it, and we're hoping all the planting that has struggled through the drought, will now recover. We've got a lot of plans to work on through the winter again this year, so watch this space.

We are very pleased to announce the opening of a small shop in our cabin/ bar! Suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

We have had a fabulous time with our summer camps who are now finished for another year.

New campsite layout for 2022

We're very excited to announce our new bar on the campsite this year, we've called it the Cabin and we've put reception in there as well, so we're all in one useful place.

New hardstandings have also gone in and a road to help us when it rains! It's all looking really good and the feed back from campers has been very positive so far.

The second field is now available to camper vans as well as tents. All the pitches have increased in size and we've tiered the field so pitches are nice and level.

The new Beech trees have taken root

There is always the worry the new campsite trees do not take root.

WE have changed the layout of the campsite and made the pitches in field 1 extra large. We have two large electric left and just 1 non electric in field 1. We made the pitches XL so that guests can put out awnings ad have any extras within reason. The logic being that " if you can fit it on ypur pitch, chances are it is ok with us, providing it is not a fire risk or a load more people". We then set about making it attractive by planting 750 meter and a half tall Beech trees. After that we ran some rope to segregate the pitches as the trees grow and become the boundary for each pitch. The mighty Phil used the auger to make wide deep holes, I then popped the trees in with water and feed, a good bedding in and hey presto, we have some really good looking pitches. We have been watering the trees as they are vuneralble for a while, but by next year they will be laying down deep roots. We did plant a load of Hornbeams a few years ago but they just did not like pur soil, yet the Beech trees do really well.

Miles and miles of hedging

Suddenly I remember that we have Beech hedges, black thorn, hazel, privet which are native species. We are about to plant another 500 Beech Trees to make some more hedging. The irony is not lost on me, that the campsite will have even more hedging and I have 500 plants to get in the ground. The good news is that I love being outdoors working on the campsite, that's just as well!

Getting the campsite ready for the 2021 season

We are getting the campsite, bar, lodge and cottage ready for the 2021 season. As you can see from the site map we have made a lot of extra large pitches. The idea is to give everyone a little more space in these challenging times and that little bit of privacy.

We have marked the pitches with posts and attractive rope to separate them. It will also help people pitching their tents as there will be a defined pitch area. We are also planting beech trees, we will turn them into beech hedges, the same headges that as we already have in the campsite.

The mens toilet block is getting a refit and we are painting the ladies shower rooms. The bar just need a pre season scrub as we completed most of the work in November 2020. Bookings are going very well and we think that we are going to have a very busy summer. See you in the spring.

Camping 2021 the great outdoors

In 2021 the great outdoors was a very welcome retreat for lots of our campers. While with us enjoy our bar and food service in the open space of the orchard, a great place to relax and a safe place. The Cowshed and Cosy Cob both have bars, one of them is always available for our campers. Both of our bars are well behaved dogs "friendly". We are also a watersports centre, offering lessons or hire in Windsurfing, paddle boarding and kayaking. In the third barn we have a indoor golf simulator, it is really good fun, there are some golf clubs for hire, most people bring their own. One of my favourite walks is low tide from Orcombe point to Sandy bay and back. It is about a 3 miles round trip, but go on a dropping tide, or if the tide is rising take the cliff walk back again.

Well, it's a bit chilly to be cutting the grass, but we would like to get a cut in soon! We are also improving the campsite toilets and introducing a new toilet block. Painting and plenty to do to get ready for the summer camping season 2020.

550 Trees find a new home

We are delighted to announce our new tree lined pitches

We have been working hard creating some new pitches. They are large pitches with Electricity and water, but the best thing about them is that they have trees planted around them. We always liked the trees in the middle of our campsite and we all thought, "great, let's get more trees planted"(I didn't know at the the time it meant I was planting them!)

We planted Hazel, Horn Beam, Beech, Privet and lots of berry bushes for the birds to feed on. It's a little bit like the Great Wall of China being compared to Hadrain's wall, In our case, The New Forrest compared to our tiny forrest of rather small trees. It is going to be lovely in the future and we are set to plant another 250 start of next spring..

Spring is in the Air, the camping season is coming

We wanted to let you know what we've been up to ready for this season

You would normally expect a Campsite to be rather sleep through the winter months, but we've been really very busy. I'm afraid the plam trees are not part of the plan. Sorry.

We are planting 500 trees to make the campsite even greener and make some more pitches just like in the middle of field 1. We have moved the bottom pitches up moving them away from the brook as the area takes quite a long time to dry out.

The Cow shed and Cosy Cob bars now have a disabled toilet and a new mens block, built at the back of the toilet area.
All new toilet fittings, well worth the investment. And the Cosy Cob has had some improvements and we will start work on winterising it in the Autumn of 2019. There is a new relaxing sofa area upstairs in the Cowshed.

The campsite toilets are being refurbished with new toilet units and the showers are being re vamped. We will also have some new powerful extractors installed.

We are looking forward to seeing you all during the 2019 Season.
